Planned Giving

A planned gift is a powerful way to make a lasting impact and support SIECUS and the fight for comprehensive sex ed for years to come. By including us in your will or donating unused retirement assets like your IRA or 401(k), you can leave a legacy while gaining potential tax benefits. You can also give through a donor-advised fund, contribute appreciated stocks, or donate a life insurance policy that you no longer need.

Your planned gift ensures that SIECUS can continue making a difference for future generations.

Plan Your Gift

SIECUS offers several flexible ways to plan your gift to create lasting change. Explore each option below to learn more about how you can make an impact. Contact us for assistance or more information.

Bequests

A bequest is one of the simplest ways to create your legacy with SIECUS. Include SIECUS in your will or living trust with a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after other gifts are made. Bequests cost nothing during your lifetime and can be changed at any time if your circumstances change.

Beneficiary Designations

Donating part or all of your unused retirement assets, such as your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension, or other tax-deferred plan, is an excellent way to make a gift to SIECUS. If you are like most people, you probably will not use all of your retirement assets during your lifetime. You can make a gift of your unused retirement assets to help further our mission. If you designate SIECUS as a beneficiary, we will benefit from the full value of your gift because your retirement assets will not be taxed at your death. Your estate will benefit from an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A charitable gift annuity allows you to make a significant gift to SIECUS while receiving fixed payments for life. You donate cash or appreciated assets, receive an immediate charitable tax deduction, and enjoy lifetime income. At the end of the annuity, the remaining funds support SIECUS’ work.

IRA Distributions

If you’re 70½ or older, you may give directly from your IRA. An IRA charitable rollover (Qualified Charitable Distribution) lets you transfer up to $108,000 per year (as of 2025) directly to SIECUS, potentially reducing your taxable income. This can also count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).

Life Insurance Policies

You can name SIECUS as a primary or contingent beneficiary of a life insurance policy or transfer ownership of an existing policy to SIECUS. Premiums may even be deductible if you continue to pay them after the transfer.

Real Estate

A gift of real estate—such as a home, vacation property, or land—can provide significant support to SIECUS while offering you potential tax advantages. Some donors even retain lifetime use of their property through a retained life estate. Contact our team at development@siecus.org for more information and assistance with gifts of real estate.

Stocks and Securities

Give smarter with appreciated assets. Donating stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares you’ve held for more than one year can provide a bigger gift to SIECUS and may reduce capital gains taxes. It’s a powerful way to support SIECUS without affecting your cash flow.

The need for SIECUS continues, particularly given the current challenges sexuality educators and organizations face. To continue, SIECUS needs support: mine and yours. That is why I have chosen to include SIECUS in my will. SIECUS has been instrumental in advancing sexual health in so many ways, and I want to do my part in assuring that will not end.

Planned Giving

Inspired decades ago by a classroom film featuring SIECUS founder Mary Calderone, Dr. William Yarber discovered the lasting impact of SIECUS on sexuality education. After years of relying on SIECUS as a trusted resource—and later helping lead its work—William chose to include the organization in his will to help ensure its mission continues for future generations.

Read More of His Story

Dr. William Yarber first learned about SIECUS many decades ago when, as a high school teacher, he showed a film strip on sexuality education to his health class. He recalls the feeling of being impressed by the relevance of the speaker’s messages. All of his students, and him, listened to her carefully. She was physician Mary Calderone, the founder of SIECUS.

“I was so excited and appreciated that there was an organization like SIECUS that was so badly needed and was courageous and committed to advancing our understanding and acceptance of sexual expression.”

From then on, he has admired and followed SIECUS throughout his career as a valuable and superb resource for him and his students. “I attribute SIECUS as an integral partner in the development of my career.”

He never imagined that someday, he would be involved with SIECUS. “I was honored to become a President of the SIECUS Board of Directors and chair of the National Guidelines Task Force that developed the innovative and highly praised Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education, Kindergarten through 12th Grade.” The Guidelines have been adapted in several countries worldwide and has been a valuable resource for sexuality educators in evaluating current programs and creating new sexuality education programs. This is just one way that SIECUS has made a major difference.

According to Dr. Yarber, “The need for SIECUS continues, particularly given the current challenges sexuality educators and organizations face. To continue, SIECUS needs support: mine and yours. That is why I have chosen to include SIECUS in my Will. SIECUS has been instrumental in advancing sexual health in so many ways, and I want to do my part in assuring that will not end. I hope you do too.” As one of his favorite sayings: “Giving is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference.”
